About David

David Schaldach is a studio artist based in Boulder, Colorado. His background is in Arboriculture and extends way back to his childhood in the forests of Wisconsin, but he’s always been a maker. Even the decades he spent climbing and pruning trees were by no means time-out from making art; climbing into canopies, saving nature’s art supplies from the brush chipper, and learning to see the world from the perspective of the trees themselves.

Trees, like living sculpture get pruned and left to do their magic for a couple years then pruned again over and over. That intimate relationship with nature didn't end when David traded his harness for clay and wood. It became the foundation. Every piece David creates is informed by years of studying organic patterns, the architecture of branches, and the quiet drama of growth and decay. David’s work helps bring our attention to a world we might not even notice walking by.
